I recently got the privilege of catching up with some friends from another time. I don’t want to call them old friends as they are younger than I am and I don’t consider myself old yet. Circumstances happened in their lives and they moved to another town away from the Tri-Cities. We happened to both be in Atlanta at the same conference for Homeschooling our kids. We all decided to go grab a bite to eat together, all my family and theirs, 4 adults and 5 kids total all under the age of 8. Sometimes to take my children out in a restaurant can be a challenge if you are a parent then you know what I’m talking about. We have a child that thinks they have to go make sure the bathroom is good at every place we go, plus there is the whole hey if we buy you this food you ARE gonna eat it battle.
This time was different though. The youngest child of our friends grabbed me by the hand and said sit by me. Like he intentionally wanted me to be with him. It reminded me of the way Jesus says to us, “Come here and sit with me.” He takes us by the hand and wants us to enjoy His company. To sit at His table and dine with Him. To open up His word over a cup of coffee and read and reflect on who He is. He takes us by our hand and leads us to the table with Him.
It was great catching up with friends yes but it was a wonderful lesson taught to me by a 3 year old to take the time to be led the table. So thanks Brady for the reminder as I am now gonna drink my coffee at the table with Jesus as I rest in Him.
“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.””
